Digoxin Tablet AS Medications Solutions, LLC announced Monday, May 11, 2009 that it is initiating a voluntary recall of all tablets of Caraco brand Digoxin, USP, .25 mg distributed prior to March 31, 2009 that are within the expiration date of August, 2011. This represents the latest in a string of digoxin recalls. On March 31, 2009, Caraco Pharmaceutical Laboratories and FDA notified healthcare officials of another consumer-level recall involving digoxin, a prescription drug used to treat heart failure and abnormal heart rhythms. Digoxin can also be prescribed as an injection. The injected form of Digoxin is called Lanoxin. More information about digoxin side effects and digoxin recalls may be sought from the press releases on the FDA website.

Digitek Digoxin Caraco has warned that their generic forms of the drug, Digoxin, USP, .125 mg and Digoxin, USP, .250 mg, may have serious defects involving the accuracy and consistency of pill dosage. This follows a similar recall issued in April 2008 by the drug company Digitek, another manufacturer of digoxin who felt that their version of the drug posed risks of serious injury or death due to the existence of higher than labeled dosage.

Individual pills of the Caraco brand digoxin used to fill prescriptions before March 31, 2009 may have more or less than the amount of digoxin indicated on the labels. This poses a severe risk of digoxin toxicity in patients with renal failure. The symptoms and side effects of digoxin toxicity include the following:

Lannett Digoxin

  • vomiting
  • nausea
  • dizziness
  • low blood pressure
  • cardiac instability
  • bradycharida.

A lower than labeled dose could lead to a lack of efficacy in treating patients prescribed to the drug resulting in cardiac instability.

Because digoxin deals directly with a patients heart, it is extremely important that these products are labeled accurately and that they are manufactured and distributed with the utmost care. Drug companies such as Caraco and Digitek are at fault for this lack of responsibility. If you or a loved one have been afflicted by digoxin toxicity as a result of a recalled prescription, we encourage you to seek a free consultation with the experienced digoxin attorneys at HDH, as you may be entitled to compensation. The digoxin recall attorneys at Houssiere, Durant & Houssiere, L.L.P have successfully handled many digoxin lawsuits involving the Caraco and Digitek recalls, and are aggressively pursuing suits involving the most recent digoxin recalls by Caraco Pharmaceuticals and AS Medications Solutions, LLC.
