PostHeaderIcon Levaquin Warning – Tendon rupture

E-mail Print

The FDA recently mandated a BLACK BOX WARNING (the FDA’s sternest warning) for all fluroquinolone drugs because of the increased risk of tendonitis and tendon rupture, especially rupture of the Achilles tendon.

The drugs include:

  • Avelox
  • Cipro
  • Levaquin
  • Proquin XR
  • Noroxin
  • Floxin
  • Maxaquin
  • Noroquin
  • Tequin

The risk of tendon rupture can last for several months even after the patient has stopped taking the drug. There is also much higher risk of tendon injuries in patients that are over 60 years old, patients also taking steroids or patients that have had organ transplants. The FDA data shows that these drugs can triple the risk of tendon rupture.

If you or a family member have suffered a tendon injury while taking, or after taking, one of the above named drugs, please contact the law offices of Houssiere, Durant & Houssiere, L.L.P. to schedule a free consultation.
