Faulty Brakes, Fire Hazards in Jeeps and Minivans Prompt Massive Chrysler Recall
Chrysler is recalling nearly 700,000 jeeps and minivans this week due to potential wiring and brake problems, according to reports by the Associated Press. This is the second major recall in the past week for Chrysler, who recalled nearly 35,000 Dodge Calibers last week due to sticky gas pedals, according to consumerreports.org. A similar defect prompted the mass Toyota recalls.
Included in Chrysler’s recall are 284,831 Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country minivans, specifically from the 2008 and 2009 models. According to Chrysler, improperly placed wires near the sliding door may come in contact with the door hinges, creating a fire hazard. Chrysler is also recalling 288,968 Jeep Wranglers from the 2006 through 2009 body styles. On the Jeeps, the front inner fender liners can rub against the brake fluid tubes, causing a leak which could lead to partial brake loss. The Wranglers affected by the recall were made between May 15, 2006 and Aug. 9, 2009. The minivans were made between February 2007 and September 2007. Another 110,573 Wranglers and minivans are being recalled in Canada, Mexico, and other markets.
